... I think the ceapest way would be to salvage an old laser-printer for the 'single-axis' F-theta optics in the printing head and use this for the Y-axis, while the complete head would be displaced for the X-axis.

For my parts - I've received another nearly identical NdYAG-marking laser, this time complete with the water cooling system and a rotating axis, but the PS throws an error ... could be as simple as exchanging the broken parts from one with the equal parts of the second, to bring it up again ;)
