Re: Nema 34 steppers with DQ860MA on Ramps 1.4 DIR pin issue

I'd check wether endstops still work. Marlin has this nasty habit to move away from triggered endstops only and also the habit to avoid negative coordinates.

Re: Nema 34 steppers with DQ860MA on Ramps 1.4 DIR pin issue

I just checked the endstops and they seem to be working just fine. i have mine set up to be normally open. measuring from the leads at the Ramps side i have no continuity unless the switch is pressed...

Re: Nema 34 steppers with DQ860MA on Ramps 1.4 DIR pin issue

I will be putting 1k ohms resistors in series between the Ramps signal pins and the DQ860MA tonight. I'm also going to replace the suspected "burnt" optoisolator FairChild HCPL2531 with some scavenged...

Driving a DC PCB heated bed with AC mains?

Hello, I'm in the early stages of desiging my own kossel-style printer. I would like to drive the heated bed with mains voltage in order to reduce the power requirement on the power supply. Even if...

Re: Driving a DC PCB heated bed with AC mains?

Even with PWM you have to design for full on conditions so 1.2 ohm, with 240vac so thats 171 amps! Its never going to work, your just going to have lots of instantaneous copper evaporating and fire!

Re: Driving a DC PCB heated bed with AC mains?

In the long run, you would probably be much better off looking on YouTube at how Werner Berry made the mains-powered heated bed on the BerryBot and duplicating that. I believe that there are a few...

... look here - this are common galvos with drivers for show-laser applications, but the smaller/cheaper systems could be good enough for scanning UV-lasers too: [www.mylaserpage.de]

Re: Driving a DC PCB heated bed with AC mains?

QuoteLeavSo, the basic idea is to order a board like this, and power with mains voltage. BUT! since just connecting it to mains will certainly fry it within a second or two, the idea is to use a solid...

Re: Driving a DC PCB heated bed with AC mains?

He has got me wondering about some some sort of sine wave following pulsed power supply though that grabs voltage from 0 - 15v and 0 -15v part of the cycle for use. It wouldn’t need to be continuous.....

Motors do little steps, not big ones.

Hi there, I'm building an i3, it's mostly complete. Electronics are Mega 2560 + ramps 1.4 running marlin. FYI I bought it all as a kit from these people via Amazon. It's been a mixed bag so far, but...

Your max feed rate is probbly to high. once they get out of the accleration curve phase the steppers are trying to move to fast try a contolled move eg G1 X10 f300, ie move to X10 at feedrate 300....

Re: Motors do little steps, not big ones.

Also, acceleration is set too high per default in most firmwares. 9000 mm/s2 is ridiculous, 1000 mm/s2 is much closer to what typical printers can achieve.

Re: Driving a DC PCB heated bed with AC mains?

You missed the central point... generating ~24v ac from the mains by extracting the first and last part of the sin wave. ie a type of power supply. I am not advocating putting the HBP anywhere near...

Re: Driving a DC PCB heated bed with AC mains?

If you're going to cut down the mains 240VAC down to 24VAC, you may as well just use a toroid transformer suited to the job (with a 10:1 winding ratio) to do it and avoid all this really unnecessary...
